Four Things to Do Immediately After Moving Into a Furnished Apartment

Furnished apartments Edmonton are a convenient and increasingly popular habitat option. While they are most commonly found in urban areas, they are spreading out to suburban locations in some areas as well. If you have decided to take advantage of the many benefits associated with living in a furnished apartment unit, you may be eager to move in and get settled. Remember to follow these essential steps after you get your keys and are cleared to move in.

1. Turn in the Property Condition Form

Your property manager will usually provide you with a property condition form when he or she gives you the keys to the apartment unit. This is a form that you usually need to complete within a couple of days or sooner, and it documents any damaged areas that are pre-existing. The purpose is so that you are not charged for this pre-existing damage when you vacate the unit. If you fail to turn in the form by the due date, you could erroneously be charged a sizable repair fee when you move out.

2. Take Pictures of Damaged Areas

In addition to completing the form and turning it in, it may be a smart idea to document any damaged areas by taking photos. It is generally not wise or beneficial to submit photos months down the line when the date of the photos cannot be determined. Therefore, submit any photos of current or existing damage to the property manager when you turn in the property condition form. This extra step can provide you with additional protection, and it only takes a few minutes to do.

3. Run to the Store

After the important matter of property condition has been addressed, you need to stock your fridge and buy the essentials. You may have minimal unpacking to do because the unit is already furnished, and getting food, toiletries and other items can help you to feel more settled right away. If you did not pack towels, linens and other items that were not included with the apartment, you will need to buy these as well.

4. Get Comfortable

Unpacking your suitcases and a few boxes that you may have brought with you can typically be completed within a few hours or less. In fact, you may find that all of these important steps can easily be completed within the same day. The next step to take is to venture out to get a closer look at the apartment community’s amenities, venues close to your new home and more.

Moving into a furnished apartment can be a smart idea, and you may love how easy it is to get settled. By walking through these initial steps quickly, you can feel right at home without delay.
