Commercial Cleaning Checklist: 7 Janitorial Tasks

It’s much more literal than you think when making your business or organization shine. Of course, there are performance markers to meet each quarter to see if strategies are working. In the office itself, things could become cluttered rather quickly. If nothing is done about it, it can make productivity falter drastically.

Fortunately, there are many ways to take matters into your own hands. Commercial cleaning services are available to you, but there are also many parts you can do yourself. It takes creating a commercial cleaning checklist to make sure you stay on the right track. Here is what you should include in the commercial cleaning checklist:

1. Clean room by room

It may be tempting to start from scratch and clean what you deem necessary to be tidied up. While this is worthwhile and manageable, it can also take up time. In today’s business landscape, time is money, and you want to save as much as possible. Commercial cleaning should start by cleaning up one room, then another.

For example, you can start by focusing your efforts on reception, ensuring all matters are tended to. A good rule of thumb is to start with the smaller rooms in your company and then move on to the larger ones. You will feel much more accomplished as you make your way to the next space.

2. Dusting

Over time, you will realize more dust accumulation than anticipated. The buildup of dust in your office can make matters worse in terms of tidiness. That is why you should take the time to do a few sweeps in your respective room at the onset.

Grab a broom, dustpan, or a device that combines the two, and start from one corner of the chosen space. Make your way through all the small spaces in each room, and move to the opposite end. You should also have a few garbage bags nearby to dump the dust inside afterwards.

3. Throw away trash

Speaking of garbage bags, these items will be extremely important for most of this clean-up. Some of us may tend to leave behind unnecessary garbage on our desks or near our cubicles. Dispose of any garbage, and toss them into your chosen garbage bag. Then, switch your focus to the unnecessary items inside.

Most of the time, you will have a ton of belongings inside of your office that just are not useful anymore. If they do not have any sentimental value, it is always encouraged to just throw them into a garbage bag. This makes your space more organized, but it is more pleasant on the eyes!

4. Sanitize surfaces

Do not just think that you are finished with the first round of dusting just because you are finished. Tidying up a commercial space means that you should always go the extra mile to prevent uncleanliness. In the age of a global pandemic, sanitization has become more important than ever before.

Take a look at all surfaces that are used daily. Using a sanitizing tool or disinfectant wipes, clean these surfaces off a few times. Then, wipe off the remaining sanitizer using a dry cloth. By doing this a couple of weeks at a time, you ensure that you prevent germs from accumulating!

5. Clean the windows

Windows are notorious for becoming targets of dust, grime, and an assortment of other dirty microbes. It may be difficult to clean all of them, especially if the company is in a large building, but it isn’t impossible. Focus your efforts on the ones that are directly in your control. Wash them off, use some soap, and then use a manual squeegee to wipe the remaining liquid.

6. Kitchenware

Many offices may also have a ton of kitchenware lying throughout the space. Take the time to clean up all the cutlery and plates that may not be inside the kitchen. Put them in the dishwasher, and ensure they are tended to. After all, it is out of courtesy to have them in a ready-to-use state.

7. Vacuuming

An initial round of dusting may not be enough to stop the accumulation of dust and other forms of debris. Fortunately, all it takes is a solid round of vacuuming to bring things back to a natural state.

As with dusting, make sure you start from one end of the chosen room and move to the opposite end. Put on some music and start vacuuming away; you will have more fun completing your checklist!
