STAFF PICK: READERS THEATER—QUEEN VICTORIA

By Miles Clements

My knowledge of the British monarchy is informed by three things and three things only: The Sun, Her Majesty Investigates and The Queen. But if throwaway tabloids, romanticized murder mystery novels and an Academy Award-winning film don’t quench your knowledge for all things monarchical, you’re in luck. The Cerritos Public Library is hosting a play-meets-fictionalized-interview about the life of Queen Victoria featuring reenact-ors of Clare Booth Luce, Dorothy Parker, Katherine Graham, Nellie Bly and Louella Parsons. It’s all in full costume and, according to the library’s description, is “completely factual”—something I can’t say about my own royal knowledge.

Readers Theater: Queen Victoria. Cerritos Public Library, 18025 Bloomfield Ave, Cerritos 90703. 562.916.1350. Mon 7:30pm.
