If you believe the Los Angeles Galaxy’s website, there’s far more to the team than just David Beckham. There’s Cobi Jones. Landon Donovan, too. There’s also the fact that the team has won the MLS Cup twice in the past five years. But look at the Home Depot Center’s website and you’ll see something entirely different: David Beckham on his knees, with arms outstretched and stars literally raining from the sky. The Galaxy’s home opener against FC Dallas will probably be full of Beckham hype (he joins the team over the summer) and hopefully the team accepts that because I don’t know who they’re fooling—except themselves.
