MONDAY MORNING HIGH SCHOOL QUARTERBACK

Stuff that happened

When choosing a “Game of the Week” you want to pick the game with the best story line and the best chance for a close contest. No matter what game we would have chosen last Friday, chances are we would have been OK. Consider …

Five of seven games involving Moore League teams were decided by seven points or less, three of those by three points or less.

When was the last time you saw a 20-play drive? Wilson took 6:30 off the clock while going 80 yards in 20 plays in the second quarter of their 28-27 loss to Pacifica. The Bruins converted three fourth downs on the drive, all three with passes to wide receivers. The result? A seven-yard touchdown pass from QB Zack Kazarian to Michael Willie.

Not only did Poly fall to Birmingham 20-7 on Friday, the Jackrabbits didn’t score until late in the fourth quarter when the game was all but decided. Big deal? Probably not. Poly is attempting to shift their offensive strategy towards a potent air attack and it looks like the offensive line is still getting the hang of it. QB Morgan Fennell finished with only 101 passing yards and had Birmingham defenders in his face all night.

Compton Head Coach Calvin Bryant is a Verbum Dei alumnus. He paid tribute to his alma matter on Friday by kicking the snot out of them, 71-7.

One player isn’t going to win or lose you a game, right? Well, last year the Jordan Panthers won only one game after losing their starting running back Tylik Carter and wide receiver/defensive back George Booker to injury. On Friday, Carter scored the eventual winning touchdown and Booker knocked down a pass on defense that would have tied the game with seconds remaining.
