WHAT’S THAT!?
Our weekly microscopic look at Long Beach

Long Beach is filled with great Spanish architectural details like this. Most of them are on a house that I secretly covet. This one, however, is on a public building, where I can covet right out in the open.

ANSWER: The fabulous bit of detail is on the Recreation Park Bandshell at Park and Seventh Street. The park opened in 1923, and the speaker’s shell was dedicated in ’29. Check out the back of the building: it has a plaque detailing this landmark’s history.
