“Diamond D’s been around for a long time, even though most people might not have heard of him. He started as a DJ in 1979 with the legendary Jazzy Jay, so even though he’s known as a producer, he is really one of the pioneers of hip-hop. He was doing his thing back when there were block parties and all that. I listen to all his albums, but I think this is the best one. The production on it has a real old-school hip-hop sound—not like all the new stuff out right now. It’s just real b-boy style that today’s hip-hop is missing. He used to be in a crew called Diggin’ in the Crates with Fat Joe, and even when Fat Joe left and continued that commercialized style, Diamond kept his dirty, gritty sound.
