“The Hold Steady have been at the top of my top-10 lists for two years now. So you can imagine that when they played here at Fingerprints, it was my highlight of 2006. Turns out that the highlight of 2007 might fall on April 17th, when we release the live recording of the show. For this recording, we crowded all five of them on our tiny stage, and instead of hiding Franz behind a keyboard, we gave him a chance to showcase his accordion skills. It turned out perfect. They took their typical barroom-brawl sound and bottled it up into an afternoon whisper sway. My favorite part of the line-up is the Zeppelin-inspired ballad “Citrus,” going right into the bouncy finale “You Gotta Dance With Who You Came to the Dance With.”
