Australia’s Architecture in Helsinki fearlessly face Coachella

Architecture in Helsinki

Architecture in Helsinki are a band of varying musicians and instruments from Melbourne, Australia. Each member can pretty much pick up anything and rock out, and as founding member/lead singer Cameron Bird insists, they are all about collaboration. Less a band and more of a musical collective, Architecture in Helsinki will take the stage (all of it, we hope) at Coachella on Friday night. In 2005 the band put out In Case We Die, their second album, which was quickly picked up by just about everyone in the book to be re-mixed into the album We Died, They Remixed less than a year later. Their live shows are notoriously joyous, boundless, raucous affairs—the set at Coachella will be one of the best ones to catch.

Hey there, so who am I writing to?
This is Cameron!
I love you guys, and yet have never seen you live. I find this tragic. You?
I am deeply heartbroken. Though you’ll see us soon enough and we’ll either set your world on fire or you’ll think we are a pile of crap . . . that’s how we roll in Helsinki.
How many members will be touring this time? And most importantly, how many instruments? Have you added anything new and exciting to the arsenal?
There are currently five of us. Our friend Ryan McPhun (from the awesome Ruby Suns) will be playing with us, something we are all super excited about.
I read in one of your interviews, you said, “Castanets are so fricking hard to play. ” And I thought I was the only one.
I still have no idea how to play those things. Sadly, Australians aren’t blessed with too many rhythm genes. So, who knows, I might move to Spain and do an intensive five year course someday.
Whatcha listening to right now? Anything in particular blowing you away?
The new Sebastien Tellier record is so sexy. Lots of Art of Noise, some Deadly Dragon Sound mixtapes, Ruby Suns, Glass Candy and Chromatics and my homie YACHT.
