CITAY ‘LITTLE KINGDOM’ DEAD OCEANS
Combining the talents of composer Ezra Feinberg (Piano Magic) and Tim Green (The Fucking Champs), Citay’s newest Little Kingdom blends ’70s Thin Lizzy-inspired rock with tinges of psychedelia and a little Led Zeppelin. The result: extended, ethereal melodies that demand you close your eyes and imagine accompanying visuals. Perhaps a long autumn hike in the mountains? The title track features smoky vocals (like Alex Chilton) mixed with soft Fleetwood Mac or Pointer Sisters backups, while “A Riot of Color” puts a Moog melody between the acoustic guitars. With each instrument and the musician playing it servicing the song perfectly, there is not one bit of wasted sound on any of Little Kingdom’s eight tracks—it’s a testament to great talent as well as one of the best records of the year.
