TWO LONE SWORDSMEN ‘WRONG MEETING II’ ROTTER’S GOLF CLUB

Some know Weatherall as a British deep house DJ and the acid house producer responsible for Primal Scream’s Screamedelica; others as a dark electronic experimentalist or a curator of the early rockabilly scene with a string of musical aliases. In his latest venture, Weatherall pairs with fellow Brit Keith Tenniswood, who also comes from a long line of rock, electro and lo-fi musical undertakings, to create this genre-defying album. Wrong Meeting is a wild ride that spans the vast experience of both artists. Weatherall’s raspy vocals make the fuzzy indie-rock “Get Out of My Kingdom” into something from a jangly C86 comp, while opening track “Patient Saints” could pass for slowed-down Butthole Surfers. Then “Evangeline,” a throwback to Weatherall’s rockabilly roots, with lyrics like, “She had pandas drawing blood from her flesh with their claws / a pair of high heels and a pack of wolves / silver moons of Venus and some golden rules . . . ” If you aren’t on to Weatherall by now, I recommend this album as a training bra.
