TO THE MOON
Laura Richardson did not rise to the top of the sales department as the article claims [Dave Wielenga’s “Building Her Own Rocketship” June 18]. The fact that Richardson is no longer at Xerox is telling. Xerox was noted for bending over backward to showcase black females. She had neither the aptitude or intelligence for sales. She was assigned to a customer support position. Her tenure was pedestrian and unremarkable. If someone had a question on a product they already purchased, then she would interface with the customer. Most within Xerox who came in contact with her could not stand her.

Had Laura been a top-flight sales executive at Xerox, I doubt she would be experiencing her current financial dilemmas. Also, no one has seemed to ask her two very poignant questions: 1) Why did she have to purchase an expensive home in Sacramento when many assembly members rent? 2) What happened to the $28,000 assembly member housing stipend?

POINT OF ORDER!
Isn’t this the same DiLoreto clan that unsuccessfully sued the Downey school district for refusing to post the Ten Commandments on a public school baseball field sign [Will Swaim’s “Six More Years,” June 11]? Glad to see he’s interpreting our laws . . .

PURTY PITCHERS
Thanks for the great review of William Livingston’s pinhole photographs of the Port of Long Beach [Ellen Griley’s “Slow It Down,” June 4]. A link to this story was added to our own review at the Photo Exchange (thephotoexchange.wordpress.com), an internet journal about photography in Southern California. Our journal is sponsored by the Photographers Exchange, a group of photographers who meet every third Thursday of each month at the Irvine Fine Arts Center. Both Livingston and his uncle, Maurice Fialkoff, are members of the Photographers Exchange.

TELL GRAND JURY ABOUT ANIMAL SHELTER CRIMES
If there is anyone interested in filing a complaint for a potential Grand Jury investigation (of the Long Beach Animal Shelter), you should get it in soon [Dave Wielenga’s “Long Live Gay Dogs,” June 4]. The deadline is coming up in a few weeks for 2007-2008. This shelter has managed to remain out of the reports for some odd reason. This would be another way to make sure this shelter is doing what it is supposed to do. Not to mention that they could bring criminal charges up on certain people involved. Complaints can be filed at: http://www.lasuperiorcourt.org/jury/complaint.html.

A VOTE FOR TONIA
I am the co-advisor for the Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo High School Alliance, our campus’ gay-straight youth organization. Thank you for your outstanding recent feature on Tonia Reyes Uranga [Dave Wielenga’s “Race Against the Machine,” May 28]. We have had the pleasure and privilege of receiving support from Ms. Reyes Uranga for our events in recent years. She has consistently supported our yearly Day of Silence event and her office invited our students to prepare a display at Long Beach City Hall to commemorate National Gay and Lesbian Month last October. Her commitment to affecting positive change in the lives of her council constituency and the youth of Long Beach in general has been very impressive. She is truly someone who walks her talk and she has won my deep and abiding respect.
