“And what a wonderful parking lot it will be . . . (sigh)”
DOIN’ WHAT COMES NATURAL
As a member of Los Cerritos Wetlands Land Trust, I was truly moved by Dave Wielenga’s “With Hope as Strong as Certainty” [March 26]. Most people hurriedly drive by those pristine acres without a glance either right or left. For those who know about the immeasurable value of wetlands and battle for their conservation and restoration, we appreciate the promise and possibilities singing within this beautifully written piece.

I’ve seen the coyote, I’ve seen the great blue herons nesting in this area, I’ve seen the flocks of shore birds that seem to thrive here. I’ve seen them from the road in my car, walking my dog and from the water in my kayak. These wetlands and the ocean are Long Beach’s Central Park. We need the outdoors to feed our souls and we must do everything we can to preserve these treasures. Great article!

And what a wonderful parking lot it will be . . . (sigh). Hey, we’ve got a ton of available industrial space downtown by the 710 Freeway—why don’t the eager beaver developers look at that, or swap? It might actually draw folks to that side of town and mitigate the traffic nightmare that would occur if these wetland properties were developed.

I don’t think there has been enough public input on the SEADIP, so I am hosting a meeting at Emerson Elementary on April 7. The public can come and not only hear about the SEADIP, but learn about the importance of wetlands in that area.

NOT JUST AN EARTHQUAKE, BUT A BLOCKBUSTER
Re: Megan Brescini’s story about the next great Long Beach earthquake [“When It Comes,” March 19]: Did you also write the script for that mega box office hit Volcano?

GRASS ROOTS OR FAMILY TREE?
Finally! The family connections and their stacked nominations are finally documented for everyone to see [Dave Wielenga’s “Lowenthology,” March 19]. The packing of the process with paid staffers, people who have benefited from their Lowenthal connections, and family members is really an expression of insecurity and lack of confidence that the “ordinary” Dems would do the right thing. There is just something very undemocratic and anti-progressive about this approach to politics. The city is too big and the issues too important to leave it to just one family political machine. Let’s turn the page.

In simple satirical summary, it’s a matter of nepotism, cronyism, and political incest. Not only are they screwing each other, they are trying to screw the people they have taken an oath to represent and serve.

GOOD? IT’S GREAT FOR HITEN!
The article about Quality Assured Collision Center [Theo Douglas’ Shelter column “A Curvilinear Downtown Body Shop Has a High-Class History,” March 19] was a good one. Well researched. Adhvaryu is a solid and bright business professional. I’m glad you’ve featured him in this piece. Good for you, and good for Hiten!
