SEXBACK (SEXY FEEDBACK)
I see the Bluff Park Sailor listed as one of Long Beach’s sexiest [“Long Beach Sexiest People,” Feb. 6]. I’m thinking “Well of course, duh,” but then I thought, “Why not the Long Beach Museum of Art’s Yellow Baby?” Or is that just wrong?

THE EDITOR RESPONDS If Big (Yellow) Baby is wrong, we don’t wanna be right.

Warren Thomas totally knows how to keep it weird. I love that guy for all that he’s worth, and I’m honestly proud to say that he’s my brother.

[Editor’s note: DJ Wingard was nominated for the sexiest list.] I think it is fabulous that Long Beach has found a Phillip Seymour Hoffman look-alike with three kidneys and two pancreases even remotely attractive, let alone sexy. Thank you, dear town of my birth! You have made this ex-diabetic proud.

SEXIVER (SEXY RIVER)
While, to the best of my 30 years perspective on the subject, Bob Foster is the first mayor to take up the banner of redirecting the Los Angeles River, and is to be commended for doing such, it is not true that John Morris was the first person to publicly mention moving the Los Angeles River as your article claims [Dave Wielenga’s “Foul-Mouthed,” Feb. 6.] The public record of the Long Beach City Council, Port of Long Beach and numerous issues of the Press-Telegram are replete with the suggestion. The concept was codified to Bob Foster in writing shortly after he became mayor with the suggestion that it be made one of his first priorities.

How about cities above Long Beach being accountable for their own litter? Have them clean their channels more often and cite the people that actually litter.

SEX SHOP (SEX SHOP)
To our horror and astonishment we find in your “Walk on the Wild Side” article [Feb. 6] that our store is listed on the bottom of the page with the wrong phone number. We were very upset but it got worse! The phone number the District listed with our name and address belonged to a competitor! In the more than 15 years Rubber Tree has been in business this has never happened. The impact was even more profound because it is our Valentine’s season.

DEPT. OF CORRECTIONS
From Dave Wielenga: City Attorney Robert Shannon should not—repeat: NOT—have been included in the list of high-ranking Long Beach city officials who were accused of looking the other way for years while former Queen Mary chief Joe Prevratil refused to pay full rent on the ship [“Everybody Loved Joe,” Feb. 13]. I mistakenly reported that, and I apologize for the error. My story—about a culture of insiderism at City Hall—paraphrases part of a wide-ranging interview with former deputy city attorney Jim McCabe, who told me that former city manager Jerry Miller and former auditor Gary Burroughs for years fended off attempts to force Prevratil to live up to his contract with the city. I mistakenly included Shannon’s name in that list. McCabe contacted me Wednesday, hours after the story appeared, to express his discomfort with my error. “Shannon’s name should not have been included in that ‘who for years’ paragraph,” said McCabe. “He did contribute heavily to the angst that led me to retire somewhat early, so that mention later in the article is absolutely correct.”
