Long Beach Pizza Company’s Pesto Pizza

Long Beach Pizza Company is in a popular part of town, tucked in on Broadway between neighborhood staples like Olives and the Library coffeehouse. But what brings in the crowds is LB Pizza Co.’s variety—the place has a sprawling selection second only to Long Beach’s favorite Thai/Italian/American flavor-pit, Dean’s. However, while Dean’s specializes in rapid-fire delivery, LB Pizza Co. perfects the art of the sit-and-stay pizza parlor: Food and drinks are all affordable (a pint of Pyramid goes for $2.99) and their long hours happily welcome late-night diners and lingerers that might otherwise head home hungry. But among all compelling reasons to come here, one superb pizza transcends them all: the Pesto Pizza. LB Pizza Co.’s Pesto Pizza builds from the bottom-up with a predictable foundation: soft, hand-tossed crust followed by pesto sauce and a generous heap of mozzarella. On top, the tomato, feta cheese and artichoke hearts deliver a collective, salty and tangy final blow, crowning this pizza an indisputable legend. The Pesto Pizza is in a class of its own: Round Table’s Gourmet Veggie comes close, but runs another six dollars. It’s not often that the best of both worlds exists, let alone waits for you mere miles from your front door.
