Suzanne Tracht’s eponymous spot on Ocean Boulevard was a big culinary coup for those with appetites for downtown dining. Though Tracht’s has already become a fixture along that beachfront stretch of town, it was just a year ago that the restaurant was firing through its first few months. Those were tough times, too, because the place was met with some of the strongest food-based fanfare the city has seen. The big deal, of course, was that Chef Tracht was (and still is) an LA success. Tracht’s had her bringing her signature chophouse style and sending out many of the same classics that became so famous up the 405. But now the bigger deal is that the restaurant has finally cooked through its first year. To celebrate, Tracht’s has been offering an ongoing three-courses-for-$30 menu, an anniversary selection of Chef Tracht’s (and Chef de Cuisine Randy Montoya’s) classic dishes. The offer runs through Sept. 1, so eat up the economy while you can—the three-course meal costs about the same as a single serving from the restaurant’s regular menu. Best of all: the anniversary menu really is a smart list of restaurant highlights, namely the excellent char sui pork chop and Chef Tracht’s decadent pot roast, a huge block of meat fit to supplant even the most entrenched family recipes
