Pre-packaged food is usually as appealing as a nice cool glass of Long Beach ocean water, but there are times when a home-cooked meal just isn’t a reality. Still, your stomach sure as hell doesn’t know that Jeeves is on vacation or that your oven broke—it’s hungry, needs to be fed and won’t take no for an answer. What talking tummies don’t understand is that quenching that hunger is never worth the agony of ingesting a plate full of food that’s probably been sitting in the same container for close to a week. But finally there’s some relief—and it doesn’t have anything to do with Rolaids. Located in the refrigerated section at Trader Joe’s, the grill pressed eggplant wrap with spicy tahini sauce is here to save us all. The meal comes with two pieces of lavash filled with eggplant, cabbage, garlic sauce, parsley and green onions and is as tasty cold as it is warm. My only complaint is that pouring the tahini sauce over or into each wrap creates a minor catastrophe that requires numerous napkins, but that’s nothing when you consider how quick, filling and delicious the eggplant is. And it’s less than five bucks. Can’t beat that.
