Half the fun of ordering a martini is acknowledging what it (seems) to say about you: you are somebody. You own your own business; you sailed into town aboard your 42-foot yacht just hours ago; you are a connoisseur of life. (Downside if you’re a woman: you’re also snotty and you hate calories. Anyway.) The other half is that fuzzy, warm feeling you get as the vodka settles in your belly, a message from your brain that says only yessssssssss. You deserve a drink like this, just like you deserve a nice power lunch once in a while, even if you work from home or don’t work at all. And the peach Cosmopolitan at just-posh-enough Bono’s* is the perfect martini for that (imagined) power lunch: striking—it looks like a melted watermelon Jolly Rancher—and sweet—your lips feel like you’ve just licked a lollipop. Throw on a suit, fake a little chit-chat about “synergy” or create a PowerPoint presentation if you wish, but don’t break a sweat: you’ve already arrived, friend. Relax.

*Actually, the peach cosmopolitan depicted in the photograph above is from Nico’s on Second Street; my review, obviously, was about a peach cosmopolitan from Bono’s, also on Second Street. Funny story: originally, I was tipped off about the Nico’s martini―and that’s where I sent the photographer. However, in a fit of rabid thirst (read: I’m monstrously overworked!), I somehow became confused and ended up at Bono’s. Terribly sorry about all this—to make it up, I plan on hitting Nico’s in a few weeks. Look for a drink of the week from Nico’s (proper!) in our June 6 issue.
