Honey Moon Summer Ale

As summer weather approaches, people begin lurking from Broadway toward the ocean to enjoy the sea breeze, oil islands, polluted water and slightly fishy air. While one might emerge as a character from Toxic Avenger after taking a dip in our oily seas, we don’t like to think of that. In Belmont Shore, the land of volleyball and rollerbladers who rock spandex bike shorts like it’s 1989, we need a drink to sugarcoat the reality of our half-assed industrial beach. That drink is Honey Moon Summer Ale. My boyfriend and I bought a sixer of this Blue Moon Brewery seasonal reserve and headed over to the city beach with pride (though technically, this is illegal). Bathed in moonlight, this smooth, light ale truly tasted like honey—Pooh himself would have stuck his paw in my bottle. We were on the lookout for wayward bees, but fortunately they sleep at night; we had the six-pack, like a liquid hive, to ourselves. Honey Moon is a slightly sweet, mild beer with a hint of wheat and orange citrus, and of course noticeable honey overtones. It’s perfect for hot days, relaxing and dreaming on the city porch, or for sitting on the beach at night, watching our offshore industry lit up and ominously beautiful in our oddly still sea.
