DRINK OF THE WEEK

Gobstopper Martini

With spring officially here, we’re all looking for an excuse to sit in the sun and enjoy an afternoon cocktail. Tired of staying out till last call and seeing the same people in a dimly lit room? Venture over to the Yard House during happy hour, where I recently sat down with the inviting Gobbstopper Martini. If you’re wondering if it really tastes like the Willy Wonka candy we see at movie theaters, I assure you—this martini won’t let your taste buds down. The color is friendly—slightly pink with a hint of purple—and after just one sip, you’ll have flashbacks to those afternoon matinees, sucking on the little candies till your taste buds went numb. Some may call this just another chick drink, but the Yard House’s martinis pack 10 hefty ounces of (mostly) liquor. This everlasting drink has equal parts Ketel One Citroen vodka, Dekuyper Watermelon Pucker, Hpnotiq and sweet and sour. It tastes cool and smooth and stays true to its candy-cousin taste till the last drop. (Some fruity martinis tend to be too sugary for me, but I found the Gobbstopper had just the right amount of sweetness.) And the happy hour prices can’t be beat, either: $5.50 for this Wonka-lious creation! (Considering these candies cost $100 at the theater, you might as well get something more out of it.) Put down that box of candy and come play with the grown-ups.
