Breaking real-life crime from a real-life Criminy! reader:

“It was the middle of the night when my wife woke me up to tell me that someone was trying to break into our neighbor’s house. When I approached the place, I saw my neighbor running around in his skivvies wielding a bat. As I turned back to my driveway to keep an eye on things, I saw a police officer with a flashlight and a gun drawn. (He kept the gun on me while I told him that I was the neighbor and that we had called 911.) It took a while to play out, but the story apparently went as follows: a girl was drinking at a nearby bar and followed home some guy who lives down the street. The man’s mom kicked the girl out, so she wandered down the block and pounded on the house four doors down from us. No answer. Then she went to the second house. No answer. Then she went to the third house. There, she pounded on the door so hard she broke the glass and sliced her hand. Leaving a trail of blood behind her, she made her way into my neighbor’s backyard and eventually into his house. My neighbor (handling a Louisville Slugger) confronted her only to have his wife corner the girl in another room and hold her until police arrived. Chalk one up for the neighborhood watch.”
