Long Beach lost a bit of its bike-friendly reputation on Saturday when a silver SUV began chasing a man on a bicycle. According to witnesses, the biker was more than angry after the SUV cut him off and nearly hit him—the pedal-pusher aimed some words at the SUV, and the car followed. When both ended up at a stop, two men jumped out of the car and spit on and punched the biker before they sped off, chugging their way toward downtown.

A driver phoned police over the weekend to report a man exhibiting some potentially drunken behavior as he zipped in and out of traffic, cutting off a handful of vehicles with each successive lane change. While officers were en route to the scene, the caller kept a vigilant eye on the man and watched as his behavior grew a bit more erratic. But to the caller’s (and the police’s) surprise, the driver eventually owned up to his drunken guilt: He started hurling empty beer cans out of his car and was eventually arrested.
