A pair of small-time criminals revealed why they are small-time criminals when they let a potential mark get away. The duo seemed to be following standard criminal procedure when they approached a man walking alone on the street, drew their guns and demanded his cash. But the man told the pair that, as a matter of fact, he was broke. Instead of shaking him down, the would-be robbers took off running, apparently willing to take no for an answer.

Drivers pulled over to the side of the road Friday night when they saw a white Crown Victoria, the car most commonly known as the de facto police cruiser, speeding down PCH at around 100 miles per hour. What witnesses were surprised by, however, was that wasn’t any police business being conducted—although it was zipping in and out of traffic, there were no sirens. Instead, witnesses say there was a TV screen in the back of the car playing a movie. The rear of the car reportedly had official-looking symbols—the San Pedro port police.
