It wasn’t long after midnight when firefighters were called to a local park for what they assumed would be a run-of-the-mill trash fire. What they found when they arrived, however, wasn’t a couple of smoldering fast food wrappers; it was a 15-foot teepee from a Tongva Native American exhibit that had been set on fire. The flames were too quick for firefighters, consuming everything but the teepee’s metal frame. Witnesses reported seeing three people run from the scene, but officials couldn’t pin down a motive—except perhaps if they were a couple of misinformed gamblers.

A young woman was more than frightened when she heard a man hurling insults at her from her front porch. The woman looked outside to see a man who appeared to be homeless—tall, bearded, shirtless, mismatched shoes. Despite the resident’s efforts, the man refused to leave, pacing around the house and eventually ending up in the back yard. Police arrived to talk to him and explain that the woman was not the person he had a beef with. The man eventually understood and was sent on his way, waddling down the street wearing a yellow boot and a flip-flop.
