It was around closing time when two teens pulled up to a local business in a late-model Chrysler 300 done up with shiny chrome rims. The teens entered the store and robbed the place, choking one of the female employees for whatever cash she could find. The boys sped away and, according to the victims, planned to escape to Mexico. Apparently unaware of all sorts of things—the price of gas, currency exchange rates, crooked cops—the boys assumed that their $600 heist could float them south of the border—that is, until the CHP nabbed them.

Labor Day motorists were alarmed when they spotted a man wearing an inner tube running southbound on the 405 towards Palo Verde. Callers could only assume that the man got lost on his way to the beach in an attempt to escape the day’s soaring temperatures. However, what they didn’t seem to consider is that he also may have been running away from the beach, trying to escape Long Beach’s ocean water.
