There wasn’t much a Belmont Shore woman could do after being cornered by a robber in her carport. The woman had just returned from a quick trip to the store when a man hopped out of a nearby brown sedan, pulled a gun and demanded her purse. She had to give in. When she contacted police minutes later, she didn’t have much to describe the robber: thirty-something, thin build, neatly trimmed mustache. In fact, the best she could do was to detail his flashy handgun—a silver piece of outlaw weaponry outlined in a fine gold trim. Tasteful.

Police stopped an elderly woman early Wednesday morning for a routine speeding violation. But as often happens, their onboard computers turned up that she was already wanted on two prior warrants. When officers asked the woman to step out of the car, she refused. But she wasn’t just being defiant—she couldn’t get out of the car, explaining to officers that she was trapped in her seat by a herniated disk. Police assisted her, shipped her off to get medical attention, then arrested her for allegedly stealing a rental car.
