BUY CURIOUS: SLIPPERS

Do you want it? Or need it? Depends

There’s one reason to shop at Wal-Mart and it has nothing to do with customer service. No, the only time I deal with the headache that is the CityPlace parking lot is when it’s time for new slippers. I know what you’re thinking: Can’t Jim forgo this travesty of a shopping experience to buy slippers elsewhere? I suppose I could, but the abhorred corporate conglomerate is the only place where I’ve found affordable and durable lazytime footgear that looks cool. Commonly called Crip Slips or house shoes by those in the know, these corduroy slippers protect my socks from a certain death while making me look hard as hell relaxing in my pajamas. I purchased my first pair seven years ago and haven’t gone without since. During my senior year in college, I had two pairs—one for home and one for outside—and would change them like a tough-guy Mister Rogers. Making the eternal walk from parking lot to class wasn’t nearly so strenuous, and the female attention let me know I looked good wearing them. Many friends have bitten my style since then, but they never purchase the proper brand. Each time I tell them not to be fooled by imitators, but do they listen? There are plenty of house shoes available at different stores, but you want the Dearfoams brand. From Wal-Mart. Believe you me: I wouldn’t bother with that crap hole of a place if it wasn’t an absolute necessity.
