As reported by the Vancouver Sun and later by Gawker.com, the world’s richest people now have one more toy they don’t need: luxury submarines. Yes, for $25 million you can purchase your own “megayacht of the deep,” U.S. Submarine’s Seattle 1000, a 380-ton, 118-foot submarine that can dive 1,000 feet. There’s an all-acrylic passenger lounge above the water line and an optional diver lock-out chamber; and the ship’s battery capacity (1,100 kilowatt hours) and cruising range (3,000+ nautical miles) mean it can stay submerged for several days.
