PRESS-TELEGRAM IS LATE AGAIN TO THE STORY
This morning we told you of the plight of the Aviles family: how three of their daughters died following a house fire Friday in their illegally-converted garage–and how, after a car wash Sunday to raise money for their funerals, the aunt of the late Aviles sisters was wounded in a 7 p.m. shooting near their charred home.
So did the Press-Telegram, at 10:36 this morning–coming in 15 hours late on the shooting–probably the biggest breaking news story in the city last night.
The shooting of the Aviles sisters’ aunt, who hasn’t been identified, was such big news that it was on LBReport.com and on local TV news last night, and in the Los Angeles Times this morning.
The P-T, the city’s daily newspaper, had a front-page story on yesterday’s fundraiser–with nary a mention of the shooting. It didn’t even mention the incident online, until Kelly Puente wrote something for the website.
Her story ran under the heading “Breaking News,” which indeed it was–last night. Now it’s yesterday’s news, today.

Maybe we’d be better off if you didn’t use the deaths of these children as a convenient way of attacking the PT (which of course needs to be attacked) and giving kudos to your buds. It’s sad enough the way it is.
