As we suspected, it’s official. The Board of Harbor Commissioners voted unanimously today to make Assistant City Auditor Alex Cherin the new Executive Officer to the Board at the Port of Long Beach.

It’s been quite a ride for the young Cherin, with whom we got schooled at Poly High, back when breakdancing was big the first time.

The Leadership Long Beach graduate went on from Poly to study maritime law, and then ran for the Seventh District in 2004’s city council race. He lost, but of course, became assistant city auditor last year.

In his new gig as executive officer, Cherin will be the personal adviser to the port director, and will do things like make recommendations on public policy.

Sounds like he has a lot of work ahead of him.
