CITY MAY PAY $1.5 MILLION FOR COLONNA’S PARKING LOT

Former City Council member Frank Colonna may make as much as $1.5 million by selling the city a Belmont Shore parking lot he has for years maintained for the businesses that rent space in a building he owns on the corner of Second Street and Park Avenue.

Two items on the consent calendar of tonight’s City Council meeting set the stage for Colonna’s big haul. If approved, they would signal the Council’s intention to authorize purchase of $5.8 million in bonds that would pay for Colonna’s lot at 189 Park Ave., as well as rebuild, repave and renovate the commercial alleys behind the Second Street Business District.

In other matters, the City Council will try to figure out how to deal with its current budget crisis in the face of crumbling infrastructure and an understaffed police department.
