“WHY DO YOU PREACH HATE?”

As Will Swaim pointed out in this post, there are some Americans out there who cracked a pious smile as they watched our state go up in flames this week. The way Will explained it, these folks figured it was divine retribution, that the “Hollywood bunch needs a good heavenly spanking.” Not only were we in Hell with those fires, apparently we were in Gomorrah, too.

But since Will’s post was published, our site has been getting a number of referral visits from the site GodHatesFags.com.

And it only gets worse from there.

That site, it turns out, is the web-based voice of the Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kansas. In their news roundups, they linked to Will’s story with this snarky tag: “Horrible. You believe in the Bible and state that fact? Awful.”

Thats’ because the church is apparently in favor of wildfires scorching thousands of homes and killing a handful of people. They even issued this press release: “Thank God for the California Fires! Thank God for 3 dead and billions of dollars in damage! Even with the wrath of God right before your faces, stiff-necked doomed America continues to rebel against their maker and ascribe His glory to another!”

If you can’t wrap your mind around all of this church’s bigotry, hatred and fearmongering, don’t worry, neither can I. But the question we should be asking ourselves and the church is actually one that it poses to itself in its Frequently Asked Questions: “Why do you preach hate?”

    I think these “so called” Christians need to read there Bibles again. No where in the Bible do you ever see Jesus Christ do anything like this. He taught people to love their enemies and NOT to hate. “Judgement is mine sayeth the Lord of Hosts” Westboro Baptist needs to remember that.

    “WHY DO YOU PREACH HATE?” They do it to be looked at. Poor old Rev. Fred must not have had a very good childhood, so he will lash out at any one he can. His hate is not a message, it is only about a mad old man in need of help.

    i was just plain horrified by these hate mongers picketting of the marine’s funeral here in maryland…what next??? I have never seen one group soooo completely consumed with hated on every level imaginable….hope they get what’s coming to THEM in the courtroom!!
