Just read about Sandra Day O’Connor’s husband’s new girlfriend on Wonkette. And since Anonymous Lobbyist overshared, I will, too: fortunately (I guess) my grandfather passed away long before Alzheimer’s erased my grandmother’s memory—I can’t comprehend the amount of composure currently required of Sandra. But I do remember my grandmother, unable to remember myself or my mother, repeatedly introducing us to a friend she met at her nursing home. “This is my best friend,” she’d say. “She’s my best friend here.” And then, with a look to the woman sitting next to her, my grandmother would ask, “What’s your name again?”

I couldn't care less about O'Connor and her marriage problems--she left the Court to care for her husband, which meant, i had assumed, that she loved him and wanted to be with him. I was upset that her vacancy would allow Bush to install another cronie, but felt for her. Now Sandy's hubby is in love with someone else and Sandy is HAPPY for him and RELIEVED? WTF? Thanks for leaving the Court and screwing us all over when you obviously DIDN'T have some undying passion for your husband, Sandy, you asshole. All for naught.
