WEEKEND PROJECT: PEG BOARDS

Inspired by this post at Design*Sponge, which was in turn inspired by this post at Domino, this weekend I set out to install peg boards in my kitchen.

A trip to Lowe’s on Bellflower yielded one $7 4′x4′ pegboard/perforated hardboard (8′x4′ was simply too big for my kitchen), two 8′ strips of 1/2″x1/2″ wood (about $6 each; for this project, I asked that they be cut into 2′ sections), two sets of hooks ($3) and, upon realizing that Lowe’s wouldn’t cut the pegboard down into my desired sizes, a simple handsaw ($11). Using leftover paint, a borrowed drill, and screws purchased from Vans, I was able to create one 2′x2′ board and one 3′x2′ board for my kitchen, plus another 2′x2′ board for inside my door, used now as a coat rack/key rack.

Simple directions:
-Paint the pegboard your desired color(s), if any, as well as the 2′ strips of wood.
-When the paint has dried, nail the pegboard to two of the 2′ strips, one on the right, one on the left.
-After you’ve determined where you’ll hang the board (stud finders are your friend) begin to drill the pegboard into the wall along the sides. I went with three screws per side—top, middle, bottom.
-That’s it! You’re now ready to play around with arranging your peg hooks.
