CHRIS GAFFNEY MEMORIAL APRIL 30 @ THE CELLAR

Chris Gaffney, Southern California roots rock musician, died Thursday, April 17. He’d been diagnosed weeks before with liver cancer, but sources said his April 17 death was the result of a fall and the almost inexplicable collapse of his vital signs at Hoag Hospital, Newport Beach. He was 58.

A memorial show (and fundraiser) now scheduled for April 30 at the Cellar. Here’s the press release:

“The family, fellow musicians and friends of Chris Gaffney–who passed away April 17 after battling liver cancer–will hold a memorial show for Chris on Wednesday April 30 at the Cellar nightclub at 201 E. Broadway (on the Promenade), Long Beach. (562) 495-9000. Doors open at 3 p.m. and most of the music will commence at 6.p.m.

“The three bands Chris shared his musical career with will perform and will back other artists paying tribute to him. Comedian Andy Kindler will host.

“Chris performed for three decades in Southern California, recording several acclaimed albums with the Cold Hard Facts. Along with touring in Dave Alvin’s band, the two friends wrote several songs together. Most recently, Chris achieved international recognition with the Hacienda Brothers. Chris was a great friend to music and to all who knew him.

Admission is free. The Cellar has graciously donated the use of its facility. The club admits all ages. Donations are appreciated, to help defray Chris’ considerable medical expenses, and can be made at the club or via the www.helpgaff.com website [ED. NOTE: We just checked the link and it doesn't exist. Anybody?]. In lieu of flowers, Chris’ family requests that people make donations to their favorite charities in Chris’ name. They are grateful for your years of support of Chris and his music.”
