BENEFIT FOR EVA TONITE w/NEW FI, SOFT HANDS, COMMOTIONS!

Hey, I came back from not blogging which I was doing for reasons of fuckfacery. Anyway—loved and cared-for Long Beach girl Eva (last name withheld to prevent malevolent googling) who is a familiar face at worthy shows had a nasty hiking accident and while physically recovering now suffers horrible financial hemorrhaging. To cauterize, tonight’s show at Prosp will be a benefit for her: besides Soft Hands (guitar stripped, harmonies bottomless) and the most honorable New Fidelity (whose recent pop workings demand more detailed writing by me) you will also see the Commotions, flanked by Kristina (DJ of many times, ex-organ in Red Onions) and Ruben (Verlaine/Voidoid guitar) and led by Marianne, who makes like Blondie making like a Marvelette (plus Johnny on bass and I don’t know the drummer?) and locally noted as a revved-up soul band with a happily unexpected reggae b-side called “Licorice” on last year’s debut 45. I am a fan of Ruben’s guitar since 909 times and the hop-skip hook that starts “Licorice” (and xylophone highlights) proves plenty of Treasure Island scholarship. In fact, they should flip and do a whole reggae set—summer is coming and we need a temporary Marcia Griffiths. Anyway—show at rock o’clock (9ish-10ish) and proceeds to reinflating Eva’s treasury. And while I am finding you generous ways to spend, remember helpgaff.com.
