MLK AWARD

City wants to know who among us embodies the spirit of America’s patron saint

From a city press release:

The City of Long Beach is requesting nominations for the First Annual 2008 Martin Luther King Jr. Peacemaker Award.

Two award recipients (one adult and one youth) will be honored in January 2008 during Peace Week —a week-long celebration leading up to the City of Long Beach’s Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Peace & Unity Parade Celebration on January 19th.  Candidates should have a history of volunteer or community work in areas of peace-making, nonviolence, and/or community building.  The Peacemaker Award will acknowledge the spirit in which Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. demonstrated compassionate, non-violent strategies toward peace and community building, ideals we value in the City of Long Beach.

The citywide Peacemaker Award is sponsored by Councilman Dee Andrews, District 6, The City of Long Beach Human Dignity Program and The City of Long Beach Youth and Gang Violence Prevention Task Force.

Join in celebrating individuals in our community who exemplify the values of Dr. King and demonstrate them in our community.  Nomination forms are available on line at www.peace.longbeach.gov, at the Long Beach Public Library and at the City of Long Beach Human Dignity Program office at City Hall, 333 West Ocean Blvd., 13th floor.  A text version of the form is located below.

Nominations must be received by 4:00 pm on Tuesday, January 8, 2008 (deadline extended from Monday).
