The estate of Bob Cole donates $16.4 million to Cal State Long Beach’s music department. Cole, who made his money in real estate, was an amateur piano player and his money will be used to provide scholarships to student musicians. Also, the music department gets gold toilets and premium toilet paper (known in Europe as “the dollar.”) Now, 16 mil may seem like a lot, but with the present cost of education it will fund only two scholarships and then only if the two students don’t eat much and agree to sleep under the Pyramid, you know, like the Phantom of the Pyramid and Paul Williams. Actually, the 16 million is believed to be the greatest single gift to Cal State Long Beach since someone pointed out that refried brown was not an appropriate school color.

I enjoyed reading this article. I know it’s been a while since this was actually published, but as a true, actual student of this music school, my experience here has been hell. The education is not as great, some of the teachers are not helpful and are somewhat incompetent, one of them doesn’t even have a single degree for God’s sake!! As far as the money is concerned, instead of fixing up the practice rooms, the classrooms, the instruments we have, etc. they’re going neglect the rest of us and focus entirely on incoming students and basically bribing them to go to our crappy school. Yup, sounds like something this music department would do alright.
