Happier news from East Village: landmark Americana restaurant at Atlantic and Broadway (landmark now more remarkable with the big Hank Williams stained-glass on the side) got their beer-and-wine permit two weeks ago and now have a nice chilly selection of domestics and imports for you to cuddle with beneath Hank’s glittering gaze. They’ve also been displaying local artwork (currently by the elegantly named Loren Comfort) and if they could negotiate the surely nightmarish permitting process necessary to let people quietly play guitars on their property, East Village might find itself with a nice little night-time spot. (note: Yelpers say they do live shows sometimes? Do they?) But as they are now: cold beers and all-American burgers and cheerful courteous service.
