WHAT WAS THE MAYOR THINKING?

Mayor Bob Foster discusses his newest City Council agenda-changing proposal

Announcing new City Council agenda items 12 days before the Council considers them sounds like a good idea–which is how Mayor Bob Foster and Ninth District Councilman Val Lerch, the proposal’s co-signer, both present it.

But what will it cost the city–and what are Foster’s real reasons for suggesting this? Hizzoner explains most of that to LBReport.com’s Bill Pearl here.

And if that’s not enough city talk for you, here’s Foster’s memo asking the idea be added to tonight’s City Council agenda. Take that!

According to Foster and Lerch, their proposal has no fiscal impact. It’s important to consider what they’re asking for, however–and what they’re not.

This appears to be just a “Coming Attractions” sort of feature. All the juicy stuff, all the supporting evidence from the city–hearing reports, testimony from police officers, and so forth–will continue to be due to the city the Thursday before the agenda item is actually discussed.

You won’t be getting that stuff any earlier–and that’s most of the stuff that costs the city big dough to prepare–so maybe this proposal will be a cheap one if it’s adopted.

The City Council will consider it at tonight’s meeting, which begins at 5 p.m. in Council Chambers at City Hall, 333 W. Ocean Blvd., or you can watch on your computer here.

You need a high-speed Internet connection to watch, but then you probably already know that.
