SF SPILL BEGAN IN LB
Oil spilled in San Francisco came from Port of Long Beach
In the most important story on the Nov. 8 spill, LBReport.com says the bunker fuel dumped in San Francisco had its origins in our backyard–and editor Bill Pearl isn’t just talking about the fact that the Hanjin freighter took on its load at the Port of Long Beach. “As reported over two years ago by LBReport.com, CA taxpayers are currently encouraging the purchase of high-polluting bunker fuel in the state, the result of an industry-sought exemption from part of CA’s sales/use tax enacted by state lawmakers in 2003.” Which Long Beach officials, one of whom still serves, is at the bottom of the disaster? “Its Assembly co-author was then-Assemblyman (now Senator) Alan Lowenthal.”
