SCARY STORY COMPETITION

Halloween comes early this year

How afraid do you want to be?

The Press-Telegram promotes its annual Halloween scary story competition on the website–but its scariest online story today has to be the one about a pipe bomb explosion last night at Pine Avenue and Ocean Boulevard. That just gets scarier the more you think about it.

More on the supernatural level of wonderment is yesterday’s Los Angeles Times Column One piece about the Wendover, Utah police chief, whose wife–an exotic dancer in West Wendover, Nevada just across town–was arrested recently on narcotics charges.

Or, if you’d rather not be scared at all, Press-Telegram columnist Tom Hennessy has a rather heart-warming tale of a Whittier-ian (Whittierite? Whittierino?) who moved to Long Beach to turn her life around.
