The Daily Briefing
MORE ON OC SHERIFF
The Press-Telegram yesterday and the New York Times today report on the federal indictment of Orange County Sheriff Michael Carona. We tell you this not to indulge in a vestigial passion for our old beat, but to congratulate our former colleagues at OC Weekly, where investigative reporter R. Scott Moxley broke the story of sheriffial corruption (can we call it that?) years and years ago. Oh, and also to point out that District Weekly investigative reporter Dave Wielenga–who worked alongside Moxley and grew up reporting for the P-T–might know what he’s doing when he says this about the Long Beach Sea Fest or this about private construction on public beaches or this about the Queen Mary or this about the City Council’s habit of paying busineses to move into Long Beach or this about subsiding land in Long Beach or . . . . but you get the picture.
