Way beyond blaming the victim

“A Saudi court sentenced a woman who had been gang raped to six months in jail and 200 lashes — more than doubling her initial penalty for being in the car of a man who was not a relative”, according to the Associated Press. The victim was 19 years old, when the rape occurred last year.

Forget that almost all the 9/11 hijackers came from Saudi Arabia. Forget that Saudi Arabians have been al-Qaeda’s most generous backers. Forget that Osama bin Laden is a Saudi. Saudi Arabia is our staunch ally, and a full partner in President Bush’s Freedom Agenda for the Middle East– the president says so.
