JURY CONVICTS BROTHER POLICE OFFICERS

Uh … remember when we told you yesterday about that Los Angeles jury which had deadlocked on the fate of two police officer brothers accused of being part of a home invasion robbery ring that allegedly targeted suspected drug dealers and their families?

Well, they did deadlock–on 18 felony counts. But as the Press-Telegram’s Wendy Thomas Russell reports this morning, the jury returned yesterday afternoon with convictions against brothers Joseph and William Ferguson on a combined total of 20 other felony counts.

Joseph Ferguson, 33, a Long Beach Police Department officer who is on leave pending the resolution of this case, was found guilty of three felonies, including two counts of conspiracy to violate peoples’ civil rights under the color of authority and conspiracy to possess narcotics with the intent to distribute them, Thomas Russell reports. Each count carries a maximum penalty of 40 years in prison.

His brother William, a former Los Angeles Police Department officer, was convicted of 17 felony counts.

It’s another interesting chapter in an intriguing case. Check it out.
