JESSE JAMES’ NEW RIDE IS A TRAILER … SORT OF

No, really, it’s true: according to the Los Angeles Times‘ bike columnist Susan Carpenter, West Coast Choppers spiritual guru Jesse James’ newest motorcycle is based on an Airstream trailer.

This should come as no surprise to those of you who’ve seen the master Chopper’s chopped Mercury, or his shoebox Chevy, or any of the many other vehicles on display at his shop.

The man appreciates good design, whether it’s a cage (what bikers used to call a car) or a motorcycle or a trailer.

James’ new Aerobike nods to trailer-dom with custom touches that include a radial engine, an old-timey-esque screened headlight, and a sidecar.

And that design influence? Airstream trailers, started more than 70 years ago by original globe trekker Wally Byam, have long been the gold standard in high-quality, silvery aluminum trailers.

Or, as they’re known in Riverside, McMansions.

So there you go. Could this be the fastest Airstream trailer ever? Probably. It might even be able to pull an Airstream–one of the smaller ones. That would be sweet.

Ride that thing over to Bill Williams Welding and have them weld you on a hitch.
