GIVE ME YOUR TIRED, YOUR GENOCIDAL

Your torturers keeping masses from breathing free

There have been complaints in recent years that the United States is becoming less welcoming to foreigners, but there’s one group you won’t hear complaining: war criminals. Lacking laws to hold those fleeing war crimes charges accountable, the U.S. has become “a haven for the world’s war criminals”, according to Senator Dick Durbin, chairman of the Senate Subcommittee on Human Rights and the Law.

McClatchey News reports, “More than 1,000 people from 85 countries who are accused of such crimes as rape, killings, torture and genocide are living in the United States, according to Department of Homeland Security figures.”

Sen. Durbin (D-IL) and Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK) have introduced legislation intended to partially fill in the gaps in U.S. law.

Call me cynical, but I really don’t think the Bush administration is eager to make it easier to prosecute war crimes.
