CITY WATCHES JURY DEADLOCK ON COPS’ TRIAL
Remember a couple of weeks ago, when we told you about that trial of the two brothers who were ex-cops–and accused of being part of a home invasion robbery ring that allegedly targeted suspected drug dealers and their families?
The Press-Telegram’s Wendy Thomas Russell hits some high notes in her follow-up today: turns out the jury in the case deadlocked yesterday “on certain counts relating to [brothers] Joseph and William Ferguson.”
This could get interesting for the City of Long Beach. According to Thomas Russell, Joseph Ferguson, who is charged with 11 felony counts, is an Long Beach Police Department officer on leave–but “is still technically employed by the LBPD.”
“Long Beach officials have been closely monitoring the Ferguson trial–partially because the city has been locked in a legal dispute over whether Joseph’s 2005 firing from the LBPD was legitimate,” Thomas Russell writes.
Ferguson’s brother William is an ex-Los Angeles Police Department officer who is charged with 36 felony counts in the case.
