BIXBY KNOLLS, AS SEEN FROM SPRING STREET

The Los Angeles Times drops in on the Halloween beating story

You might have missed this, amid the remains of the fire coverage.

But on Sunday–traditionally considered a good reading day by the daily papers–the Los Angeles Times parachuted in for its own story on last year’s Halloween-night beating of three young white women by a group of young African-Americans in Bixby Knolls.

It wasn’t as in-depth as the Press-Telegram’s recent coverage of the anniversary, but then the Times isn’t a Long Beach paper.

Possibly the strangest thing of all was seeing the story headlined on the Times website–the area referred to simply as Bixby Knolls, with no mention of Long Beach until you actually read the piece.

Do Times readers in Sun Valley or La Crescenta or South El Monte know where Bixby Knolls is? Then again, I know where Valley Village, Hollydale and Lennox are–so they probably do.
