BETTER DISASTERS FOR OUR BETTERS

Wildfires less wild for some

Rain, according to Jesus, “falleth on the just and the unjust.” (Matthew 5:45) Thanks to modern technology and improved customer service, fire is no longer so democratically distributed.

In this morning’s LA Times, Kimi Yoshino reports on the “‘concierge-level’ fire protection” available to the wealthy. The insurance company AIG, for example, has special firefighting units which are

offered only to homeowners in California’s most affluent ZIP Codes — including Malibu, Beverly Hills, Newport Beach and Menlo Park — and a dozen Colorado resort communities. It covers about 2,000 policyholders, who pay premiums of at least $10,000 a year and own homes with a value of at least $1 million.

Richistan really is a different country.

Hopefully those insurance companies will soon turn their attention to finding ways to force camels through the eyes of needles (Matthew 19:24) to better serve their clients’ needs.
